Elev8 Chicago Students Know the Key to Success
Elev8 Chicago students won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in an essay contest held by The Illinois Coalition for School Health Centers.
The contest asked the students to write about the key to their success at school. Soledad, a seventh grader from Ames Middle School, wrote about having epilepsy, and how the health center had kept her in school and helped her understand her condition. Her first-place winning essay can be read here. The second place winner, seventh grader Esmeralda from Orozco Academy, wrote about how her school's health center keeps students "healthy so we can come to school every day." This is especially important, she noted, because "some people at my school can't afford to visit a medical center." Her essay is here. Third place winner Estefania, an eighth grade Orozco Academy student, wrote that the health center makes her school "proud," because it helps the school and the community stay "healthy and strong." Her essay is here. |
