Elev8 NM Gadsden Hip HopOn April 18, 2009, Elev8 New Mexico students gave an "off the hook" performance of rap and Hip Hop dance as part of the Soul Verse Open Stage at New Mexico State University (NMSU) in Las Cruces, NM.

The 7th and 8th grade students attend Gadsden Middle School, located in Anthony, NM, near the US-Mexico border, and participate in this popular Elev8 extended-day learning program led by Court Youth Center in Las Cruces. They learn important lessons in respect, positive communication and teamwork through rap and hip hop dance instruction. Their hard work and hours of practice paid off as they were invited to show off their skills in front of a large and appreciative crowd of NMSU students, local Hip Hop artists and activists, friends and family.

The next stop for the Gadsden Hip Hop crew will be the Hip Hop Congress National Conference, July 29-31 in Seattle. As invited participants, they will travel as a team to take part in educational workshops, listen to talks by prominent figures in the Hip Hop community, enjoy live performances, and perhaps even share their skills with fellow Hip Hop artists.
